Healthcare Activism: Beyond the Cult Narrative

Media and government officials actively frame healthcare activists as cultists. Let’s unpack that.

First, murder cannot be condoned under any circumstances.

However, government and media are actively framing Mangione’s healthcare movement as a cult akin to that of Charles Manson—portraying him as mentally unstable, and the people who ostensibly follow him as trippy fan girls—to sway public perception and potentially prejudice a jury before his trial even begins on platforms like CNN and HBO. Such actions raise serious legal concerns about fair trial standards.

Their apparent motivation stems from fears related to:

  • Jury Nullification : A jury might acquit Mangione despite evidence of guilt if they believe he acted in self-defense, given the CEO’s role in denying healthcare to thousands who subsequently died. (And yes, regardless of where the trial is held, I suspect the jury will nullify.)
  • Precedent Setting : An acquittal could set a dangerous precedent for future cases involving similar charges… and possibly spread to other areas where sketchy ethics are involved.
  • Encouraging Copycat Behavior : Fear that others might be emboldened to act similarly if Mangione is acquitted.
  • Real Lives Lost : The fact remains that those affected by denied healthcare are real people who have already lost their lives.

Beyond the five seconds on social media where Mangione was deemed “hot” by a few loose-headed gawkers, most activists recognize what his goal was. They’re not focused on him. They’re focused on the current state of healthcare in the US. That’s what they’re protesting. And corporate media are spinning it like Mangione is a terrorist. Except he’s not. I suspect most people would not feel uncomfortable around him anymore than around a citizen, soldier or police officer who killed someone in self defense.

Mangione has effectively shifted the focus of the broader battle over access to healthcare insurance, which many believed they had already secured by paying into a health insurance system. At its core, this case is not just about the murder of an insurance CEO. It also highlights systemic failures in healthcare access and challenges the corporate influence over medical decisions—many legislators and media outlets are tied to individuals or entities connected to healthcare monopolies, creating conflicts of interest that may drive fear of losing power or funding. Mangione actively sought to redraw the lines of where the battle for healthcare are fought. He brought it to the courts. Healthcare itself is on trial.

The Human Cost of Inaction: Why Universal Healthcare Must Be a Priority

Every day, millions of people around the US face unimaginable struggles due to lack of access to affordable healthcare. Families are forced into financial ruin, individuals lose their homes, and too many die preventable deaths because they cannot afford the care they need. Worse, most of these people have already paid into a healthcare system only to be denied at the point of requirement so that investors get a bigger return on investment. Patients are just a vehicle for monetary extraction – forget that insurance was originally designed as a pool for those in need. Profiting off the sickness of others is pure evil, unethical… immoral.

These are not abstract statistics; these are real lives, real stories of pain and loss that could have been avoided if healthcare were treated as a human right.

Healthcare is not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it—it’s a fundamental necessity for survival and dignity. Every person deserves access to quality medical care regardless of their income or circumstances. Universal healthcare would ensure that no one has to choose between paying for groceries, rent, or life-saving treatments. It would allow people to live healthier, more productive lives, free from the constant fear of financial ruin due to illness.

Take Action: Demand Universal Healthcare

The time to act is now. Write to your legislators, call them, and let your voice be heard. Tell them that you demand a healthcare system that prioritizes people over profits. Share your stories, whether it’s about how inadequate healthcare has affected you or someone you love, or how universal healthcare in other countries has transformed lives for the better.

Together, we can create a future where no one has to suffer simply because they cannot afford care. Universal healthcare is not just an ideal—it’s achievable if we stand up and demand it. Let’s make sure that every voice is heard, every story matters, and every life is valued. The fight for universal healthcare is the fight for humanity itself.

This is a response to Status Coup’s YouTube Video CNN BLASTS Luigi Mangione’s “Twisted Cult” Supporters, Attorney WARNS He Can’t Get Fair Trial in which one protester boldly states that the Media themselves are culpable because they’re owned by the same people who own the insurance companies. “They have blood on their hands.”
